DKL 1999

Cae-Du Colliery is denoted on the 1st edition Ordnance Survey County Series mapping of 1875 (sheet XXVI 12) with coal levels to the north, with air shaft and smithy, and a tramway running eastwards to Ogmore Vale. By 1899 it is noted as disused but Tynewydd Colliery has been established to the south-east with engine shed and tramway. By 1918 there is further quarrying to the north and the east.

Photographed during aerial reconnaissance by RCHAMW on 16th October 2008.
