Union Bridge was built in 1817 to carry Union Street over the Lledan Brook in Welshpool. It has been much altered. There are two stone tablets set side-by-side in the brickwork of the north parapet wall of the bridge. The right hand plaque reads:
UNION BRIDGE
BUILT FEB.1817
ON THE HAPPY UNION OF THE POWIS AND WYNNSTAY FAMILIES. AND AT THE EXPENSE OF THE FUND FOR THE EMPLOYMENT OF THE POOR. UNDER THE DIRECTION OF THE ACTING COMMITTEE OF WELSH POOL
And that to its left side:
THE INSCRIBED STONE ABOVE ORIGINALLY INSTALLED IN THE OPPOSITE PARAPET WAS RE-FIXED IN ITS PRESENT POSITION BY THE WELSHPOOL AND LLANFAIR RAILWAY COMPANY JANUARY 1902
