Description
This is the earliest group of buildings at Rhosydd, dating from the early 1850s. They form two rows, originally on either side of a tramway which emerged from an adit into the West Twll (NPRN 408820), later quarried away. The east row may have contained an office, weighbridge house, barrack and stable. The west row may have comprise another barrack and store rooms; behind were several small huts which, from the evidence of small waste fragments, were used for splitting slates. A detached building to the north was a smithy with three hearths. The buildings probably went out of use in the late 1850s, though the barracks may have remained in use.
