Description1. Situated on the River Teifi, some 150m downstream from the southern end of the Castell Malgwyn Tinplate Works complex (NPRN: 404326) is a quay, used by the barges which transported products to and from the works and the major seaport at Cardigan. As the river is still tidal up to this point it would have made the navigation of the rocky stretches of the river further downstream easier.
The quay is some 150m in length and is marked by a revetment wall constructed of coursed slabs, some 1.5m above the winter water level. There is also a section of apron quay running parallel to the main bank and quay wall, which is below winter water level. This arrangement is likely to have allowed flat bottom barges to rest on a level bottom against the quay, even when the tide fell below the level required to float them.
