Description
The Neath Canal was built 1794-5. It ran between Glynneath and Giant's Grave (SS 7318 9492), later to Briton Ferry (SS7343 9411); branches include Maesmarchog (nprn 34468), Cnel Bach (nprn 34452), Court Sart (nprn 34455). The canal was extended south 1/2 mile by the Giant's Grave & Briton Ferry (Jersey) Canal (nprn 91662) by about 1825. Traffic ceased in the l920s and the canal is now
used as a source of water for local industries.
