Type Of SiteSTANDING STONE
PeriodBronze Age
DescriptionA stone of hard, weathered, red sandstone, 2.0m high by 1.2m by 0.5m, 'recently removed' in 1979. excavation at the site showed that the stone had been erected in a trapezoid arrangement of pits, some containing cremations. A scattering of pit and stake holes was partly resolable into coherent patterns. A radio-carbon date of c.1355BC was obtained from the fill of an associated recut pit (Williams Benson 1979; Williams 1980).
