DescriptionFour hut circles located in light woodland on two shelves on south-east facing ground above Afon Croesor. Three form a group on the lower shelf and are associated with evidence for yards and paddocks, while the fourth lies 40m to the north on the upper shelf.
On the lower shelf:-
SH62554425 (A): the largest of all four, sub-circular on plan, 8m (E-W) by 7m within walls spread to 2m wide, externally 0.5m high; the structure is terraced 1.2m deep into rising ground on the N and NW and built out to 0.75m high on the SE where lies the entrance.
SH62574426 (B): circular, on a levelled platform, 5m diameter internally and defined by a bank faced inside and out with stones, overall 1m thick and up to 1m high; no obvious entrance, though possibly was on the north-west where the wall-bank is lowest.
SH62564424 (C): circular, 5m diameter internally, bank faced on each side with slabs, overall 1.5m thick and up to 0.8m high; entrance on the west is flanked by slabs.
Isolated from the above on the upper shelf:-
SH 62554429 (D): oval interior 8m (E-W) by 7m defined by walls 0.5m high and averaging 1.5m thick except on the south where it increases to 2m; here the wall has a straight-sided, angular appearance also evident on the east; the entrance lies in the south-east 'corner'.
