Tower Drift Mine provides the means of bringing coal to the surface and to the Coal Preparation Plant (nprn 407328) and is a part of Tower Colliery (nprn 91586). The drift dates from the late 1950s; underground links enabled coal mined at Mardy Colliery (nprn 33505) to be brought to the surface after coal raising stopped there in 1986.
