Royal Commission aerial reconnaissance on 11th July 2018, during the 2018 drought, discovered cropmarks of an unusual oval or pear-shaped univallate enclosure, sited on an east-facing slope above a minor stream valley to the north-east of Mathry. The enclosure measures approx. 80m NW/SE and has a curving NW side, tapering to a blunt point on the SE side. The enclosure may be open on its NE, downslope, side.

It is difficult to date such an enclosure. With its unusual morphology it appears to be prehistoric; yet with its siting on a steep hillslope with an opening facing downslope, it may be an informal medieval enclosure designed for penning stock on the hillside. Image refs: AP_2018_4510-15.
