The hearth was discovered amongst peat deposits at Ynyslas and consisted primarily of charcoal and fire-cracked stones. Samples taken from the hearth were sieved for food debris, but no remains were identified. The scientific dating of the associated peats suggested a date of approximately 4,000 BP.
