Clearance & consolidation of the castle began after 1947 & was said to be in progress in 1950 (Ralegh Radford 1960 (Brycheiniog 6), 2): a MoW photograph (ibid, plate I) shows a wooden shute projecting over the castle wall, presumably serving the tramway.
