Royal Commission aerial reconnaissance on 9th July 2018 recorded several cropmarks and parchmarks in the vicinity of Abbey Cwmhir. Of particular interest are parchmarks of a number of elongated, rectangular pits bounded by a substantial ditched enclosure, which have the appearance of a graveyard. The pit are generally aligned east-west, and are sited in an area of pasture west of Home Farm, between the barns and the modern bungalows of the village. The pits lie within the Abbey precinct and may represent a medieval burial ground; alternatively they may have a more mundane origin as part of the garden earthworks associated with Abbey Cwmhir Hall. Discovered during the 2018 drought.

T. Driver, RCAHMW, Dec 2018.

The site was subsequently evaluated by Clwyd Powys Archaeological Trust and confirmed as a probable burial ground. See Jones and Driver 2021.
