DisgrifiadNext to the footpath that leads to the quay at South Haven is a 19th century limekiln, a small square structure, 5 m by 4 m, with a circular flue. Two similar structures are evident on Skomer (NPRNs 411577, 411752) and it is clear that lime was important on the islands to be used as mortar for building construction and to spread on the fields as fertilizer.
