An extensive complex of Roman settlement and mining features are located in the area around Pumsaint and Dolaucothi, including a Roman Fort (NPRN 303908) beneath the modern village of Pumsaint, a possible funerary feature to the north, in the general area of a gold ornament hoard findspot (NPRN 309294), and settlement features south of the Cothi along the line of a road or street leading southwards towards Llandovery (NPRN 303528).

These features, along with the mine-workings (NPRN 95141) are thought to have been occupied, or in use, in the later 1st to the earlier second century AD. Some later material is known from the area (O'Neil 1937; Lewis 1977, 31-2).
