St Philip and St James's Church is sitated within a roughly circular churchyard, bounded by a road on its western side. The church was a parish church in 1841 and had a chapel of ease, Castelldwyran Church (NPRN 103703), at that time.

The church was rebuilt in 1843, to the designs of J.L. Collard. It was built on the same site, and in the same location as its predecessor, but nothing was retained from the earlier fabric. The church is described as having a low-pitched two-bay nave with lancets and short buttresses. The original porch led into the south of the chancel, but it was replaced in 1897.
