This is a subterranean well or spring, its levels influenced by the tides. It is described in a poem published in 1607 ('... for an the Nymph doth rise the spring doth fall'). The well acquired a reputation for miracles and healing, and was the focus of an open air spa that operated in the 1920s-30s. Its name associates it with the parish church to the north (NPRN 96086) and its alternative name refers to the church's supposed founder.
The well building consists of a stone-walled and slab-roof stair descending from a gated doorway. A pump and stone basin are set nearby. This structure is thought to have replaced an earlier 'low circular tower'.
