1. The earliest part of St Lawrence's Church in Gumfreston is the twelfth or thirteenth century chancel. The nave possibly dates to the same period, with the south chapel dating to the fourteenth or fifteenth centuries. A tower was added in the fifteenth or sixteenth century. The 1869 restoration was carried out by Thomas Graham Jackson. Notes by A.J. Parkinson refer to a fragmentary painting of "Christ of the Trades" on the north wall of the nave.

2. Following 'years of substantial water ingress,' St Lawerence's Church was declared 'at risk' in 2021, and in 2023, Friends of Friendless Churches took over the care of the church. It is currently closed in order to carry out substantial repairs, and during these repairs some more paintings 'emerged from beneath water-damaged paint'
